Favourite book series

I do love a good book series, I always have. Returning to favourite characters or worlds is something truly magical. So without further ado, here are my five favourite book series.

5. The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins

The Hunger Games Series

A dystopian future, where a cruel dictator and society hold so called Hunger Games every year. There 24 children from twelve to 18 are held in an arena where they have to fight one another to death. Only one can survive. That is until Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark come around. Both Katniss and Peeta are my favourite characters in the series and I really like their relationship. Not just the romantic part but also the friendship those two develop. Also, I am totally #TeamPeeta. The first two books of this trilogy are near perfect and the last one is pretty okay. And of course, for someone like me who cries a lot during reading, the Hunger Games series provided a lot of tragic and emotional moments to cry about. The series consists of The Hunger Games, Catching Fire and Mockingjay.

4. Fredrika Bergmann Series by Kristina Ohlsson

Fredrika Bergmann Series

Fredrika Bergman is new to Alex Recht’s team of detectives. At first she doesn’t fit in. But Alex will soon learn to trust Fredrika’s instincts as she helps solve every crime. For people who like mystery novels, this series is great. Ohlsson is a Swedish author, so the novel’s are set in and around Stockholm. So far, there are five books in the series Unwanted, Silenced, The Disappeared, Hostage and The Chosen.

3. Goddess Test Series by Aimée Carter

Goddess Test Series

The Goddess Test Series is about Kate Winters and Henry. Henry is actually Hades, King of the Underworld. He needs to find a new queen and Kate is trying out to save her mother and a friend. Given that it is a series, of course, Kate becomes Queen of the Underworld. Her adventures are far from over, though. She has to fight titans and a revengeful goddess all the while trying to fight for Henry and their marriage as well. I love Greek Mythology and I really love this series. Kate is one of my all-time favourite characters, I just love the fact that she is so caring and strong. It consists of four and a half books. The Goddess Test, The Goddess Hunt (a short story), Goddess Interrupted, The Goddess Legacy (a book full of short stories about our favourite gods) and The Goddess Inheritance.

1. Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling & Seven Sisters Series by Lucinda Riley

I really can’t choose between Harry Potter and the Seven Sisters. Both are brilliant, so they deserve the top spot on this list. Avid readers of Eyes of Owls won’t be surprised by this. After all, I keep gushing over both series and their authors all over this blog as well as my Instagram (@sophiji94) and Twitter (@sophiemarak). The Seven Sisters series is not finished yet, but is supposed to consist of seven books as well, just like Harry Potter. Seven is a truly magical number as both J.K. Rowling and Lucinda Riley have said.

Harry Potter box set

I don’t think I need to tell anyone what Harry Potter is about. Just in case you have not read it, here is a quick synopsis: Harry Potter is a wizard. When he is eleven years old he finds this out and starts going to Hogwarts, a school for wizards and witches. There he finds friends for the first time in his life and every year has to fight Lord Voldemort, who killed his parents or Voldemort’s followers, the Death Eaters. In Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood-Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows J.K. Rowling takes you on an adventure of a life time.

My copies of the Seven Sisters Series so far.

The Seven Sisters series in about Maia, Ally, Star, CeCe, Tiggy and Electra who were adopted by the mysteries Pa Salt as babies. After his death he leaves each of his daughter’s a letter, the coordinates of their birthplace, a quote and a token. With these items they can try and find out where they come from and by finding out about their past, they are actually finding a future. I really, really love the series. And I love the fact that Lucinda Riley can make each of the sisters unique and likeable. Especially given that apart from Maia (if you start with book one of the series, that is), you meet each one of the sisters from another sister’s point of view. So with each book you learn more about all of them even the ones you didn’t like before, by the time their own book comes out, you already love them.

So far, there have been four books published, The Seven Sisters (Maia’s Story), The Storm Sister (Ally’s Story), The Shadow Sister (Star’s Story) and The Pearl Sister (CeCe’s Story). The Moon Sister (Tiggy’s Story) will probably come out in November 2018. And in case just reading about the sisters isn’t enough for you as it was for me, you can also wear them everyday. Lucinda Riley sells a Seven Sisters charm bracelet in her shop. The bracelet isn’t just gorgeous to look at, you also help a charity with your purchase. What do you want more?

  1. I read more series years ago when I was younger but find I don’t any more though I still follow the Alex Cross mysteries that started probably 25 years ago. There are now 23 plus I think. I remember the VC Andrews series of years ago too but they are long gone. The Sisters series you mention sound interesting and the Swedish detective sounds appealing. I had not heard of them. Funny how our reading tastes as we age.

    1. Some series, especially mystery books are so hard to follow or even get into because there are way too many books to keep up, especially if you want to start from the beginning.
Absolutely, I think our taste in books reflects a lot about our lives. And especially how much we have changed.

  2. Great books! I am of course a fan of the Game of thrones series (and still eagerly await the last one) and the Girl with the dragon tattoo series. These are the ones that stayed with me in the past few years. Other then that I tend to find myself reading a lot of romance series’s (goes with the”job”) and I do enjoy it a lot – getting more story lines for the characters i loved in the first book etc.

    1. I never really got into the Game of Thrones series, somehow. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is on my tbr-list, but that list is so long who knows when I’ll get to that. 😅
That’s exactly the reason I love book series so much. Sometimes it’s just too hard to let go of a character.
      Thanks for commenting, Madi. 🙂
