Travel plans for 2018

Last year I had only one trip planned. Granted, it was a six week trip around Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore. This year it will be mostly city trips no longer than a week. I am still very happy with what I have planned.

My first trip of the year comes in the middle of February. It’s only gonna be a weekend skiing trip, but I am super excited about it. The thing is, it’s not gonna be fancy or even spectacular. It’s gonna be nostalgic. When I grew up, every February during our one week break between the two semesters in school, we would visit my grandmother. She lives in a small village in the mountains of Upper Styria. My dad grew up there and knows the best places for skiing in the area. So every year we would live with my grandma and grandpa and go skiing every day. Good friends of ours would also be there and we had so much fun together. It all stopped over ten years ago, around the time my grandpa died of Alzheimer’s. And this year, we decided to do a rivival. One weekend full of fun and skiing. I am not sure, if there wil be a blog post about this weekend, though. We’ll see.

Around Easter, I have planned on visiting London. London is the city of my heart and I have been numerous times. I actually lived there, near Clapham Junction, south of river Thames, for about eight months while I was an au pair for the second time. My first time as an au pair I lived in a town about 40 minutes away from London for nine months. So, as you can imagine, I have a special relationship with London. I managed to visit at least once a year since 2012. Only last I year I didn’t visit as I was saving all my money for my big Malaysia/Singapore trip. And since I really miss “my” city, I need to go this year.

In September I am going to New York City. Yes, you heard that right. I will finally be visiting the United States of America. That has always been a dream of mine and NYC was on top of that list since I started watching Friends (about 15 years ago – my, am I getting old or what?). I can’t wait to see the Big Apple for myself.

My last trip of the year will be a trip to Hamburg. I have never been there, only at the airport which doesn’t count. So I am really looking forward to visiting and also watching the The Lion King Musical there.

Have you been to London, New York or Hamburg yet? If so, any tips on what not to miss? And what about your own travel plans for this year? I would love to hear your plans, tips ans thoughts about my travel plans in the comments.
